The important thing here is that a consumer VPN and a business VPN aren't necessarily the same thing. If you're one person working remotely, a regular VPN may be enough. If you're responsible for an entire team, centralized management becomes much more important.

What about public WiFi?

Hotels, airports, cafes, coworking spaces, and conference venues all involve networks that you don't control.

I'd still avoid treating a VPN as a magic security button, though. Your device, browser, accounts, and applications all need to be secured as well.
