Moto G37 Power – 5G hotspot stalls until I generate data on the phone
I'm having a strange hotspot issue on my Moto G37 Power running Android 16, build W3WZ36.54-72-1.
When I use the phone's 5G connection as a Wi-Fi hotspot, the connected device initially works normally. After some time, the hotspot remains connected, but internet traffic on the connected device becomes extremely slow or completely stalls.
The strange part is that if I open something on the Moto itself and generate cellular data traffic, the connected device immediately starts working normally again.
I tested the same setup with LTE/4G only, and so far LTE hotspot appears to work normally.
Things I've already tried:
– Restarting the phone
– Resetting network and wifi settings ( it started turning the hotspot itself off even though connected, so I reset it again)
– Battery Saver OFF
– Data Saver OFF
– Checking hotspot timeout settings
– Testing with the phone's screen locked
– Private DNS off
– adaptive battery and connectivity off
– checked with the carrier
– updated the system (W3WZ36.54-93-2)
– tried blutooth tethering and usb tethering
The phone is also showing n78 2CA when connected to 5G.
Has anyone else with a G37 Power on Android 16 experienced something similar, particularly where 5G hotspot traffic stalls until the phone itself generates cellular traffic?
I'm trying to determine whether this is a software/modem issue with the phone or something specific to my carrier/network.
It's a shame cause this is the main reason I bought this phone for, trusted Motorola and paid a lot of price for it during ram shortage.
Unfortunately, I might have to return it.
