Smart TV options when there is no app for your TV

if you've checked your TV's app store for Urban VPN and come up empty, that's not something wrong on your end. We don't currently have a native app built for TV operating systems like Tizen, webOS, Fire OS, or Roku's own store, so there's no direct download from any of those.

depending on what device you're using, there are still a couple of realistic ways to get our VPN working with your TV setup:

Android TV or Google TV (including Nvidia Shield): you can sideload our android app. grab the APK from our official site and install it through a file manager or an app like Downloader, then run it like any other app.

Fire TV Stick: the same sideloading method works since fire os is built on Android, though it's not optimized for a TV screen so expect a smaller, phone-style layout.

Samsung, LG, Vizio, or any TV that doesn't allow sideloading: the workaround is running Urban VPN on a phone or laptop and either mirroring your screen to the TV or connecting the TV to that device's hotspot.

and then one thing worth knowing before you try any of this: we don't offer router firmware or a smart DNS option right now, so if you've seen those suggested as quick fixes for other VPNs, that route isn't available for us yet. Sideloading and casting from another device are the two real options at the moment.

if a dedicated TV app for our vpn is something you'd actually use, tell us below. It helps us figure out what to build next.
