Scheduled for FESS + Septoplasty (DNS with bony spur & chronic sinusitis). Friends are telling me to cancel. Are these post-op horror stories true?

Demographics: Age 24 / Male / Location : kashmir

Hi doctors and anyone who has undergone this procedure,

I have been diagnosed with a Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS) with a bony spur, chronic sinusitis, and multiple blockages in my nasal passages.

My ENT has scheduled me for a combined FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) and Septoplasty.

I was fully on board until friends and acquaintances started heavily advising me against it. They are claiming the success rates are very low and have shared the following experiences that are making me second-guess everything:

•Continuous Colds & Chest Infections: One friend is 9 months post-op and says she constantly has a severe cold ("zukaam") and a runny nose that simply won't go away. The constant drainage has now led to a chest infection, and she told me her life has become an absolute "hell" since getting the surgery.

•Perfume Intolerance: People are telling me that after this surgery, your nose becomes hypersensitive. They claim you can never use or be around perfumes again because it immediately triggers allergies and a cold.

• Dust Vulnerability: I’ve been told that stepping outside into normal dust instantly causes severe congestion, cold symptoms, and inhalation problems that feel worse than the original blockages.

I am now incredibly anxious about going under the knife just to potentially make my daily life worse.

My questions for the medical professionals (and post-op patients):

Are these complications (continuous colds leading to chest infections, hypersensitivity to dust/perfumes at 8 months out) typical, or is this a sign of poor post-op care, incomplete healing, or a botched surgery?

Does FESS + Septoplasty actually make the nasal passages more vulnerable to environmental allergens and lower respiratory infections in the long run?

What is the realistic clinical success rate for someone with my specific diagnosis (DNS + bony spur + chronic sinusitis)?

Any professional medical insights or honest patient experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
