Moving from Help Desk / VICIdial Admin to IT Support at a Bank – Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in a call center as an N1 Help Desk / IT Support, and I’m also responsible for VICIdial administration.

My current responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting users’ PC and software issues
  • Windows installation, formatting, drivers, and basic maintenance
  • Troubleshooting basic network problems
  • Managing CSV files and data imports
  • VICIdial administration and troubleshooting
  • Supporting call center users when they have technical problems

I recently received an opportunity to work at CIH Bank as an IT Support.

I’m really interested in this opportunity because I want to develop my career in IT Support and eventually move toward System/Network Administration.

For those who have experience working in IT Support, especially in a banking environment:

What should I focus on before the interview?

What technical skills should I revise or learn? For example:

  • Active Directory
  • Windows Server
  • Networking / TCP/IP
  • DNS / DHCP
  • Microsoft 365
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • IT security
  • Ticketing systems
  • PowerShell
  • Backup / troubleshooting
  • Banking IT environments

Also, what kind of technical and HR questions should I expect during the interview?

Do you think my current experience as an N1 Help Desk + VICIdial administrator is relevant for this position, and what would you recommend I learn during the next few weeks to be better prepared?

Any advice from IT Support/System Admins would be really appreciated. Thanks!
