Cursed Technique: Tincture — 彩色 (Saishiki)

Hey Guys! I’m back with another original creation called Tincture, an innate cursed technique centered around Color. Probably one of the highest ceiling CTs I’ve ever created.

Anyways, Enjoy the read!!!

Core Concept

Tincture is an innate cursed technique that grants its bearer authority over the abstract concept of Color itself.

The name Tincture comes from its older meaning relating to coloring and coloration, especially in heraldry where tinctures refer to the Colors used to define and distinguish a coat of arms. It also reflects the modern idea of a tincture as something that draws out properties and carries them through another medium. Both meanings fit the technique: Color is manipulated directly, while also serving as the medium through which humanity’s accumulated meanings and Associations are drawn out and made real.

Rather than manipulating light, pigment, wavelength, or human vision, Tincture treats the Color produced through those different processes as the fundamental object. A red apple, a red light, and imagined Red may all arise differently, but each is still recognized as Red. Tincture manipulates that shared chromatic identity directly.

Because of this, the bearer can physically manifest Color through cursed energy without requiring anything for that Color to belong to. Red can exist freely without a red object, Blue without blue light, and Black without darkness.

Manifested Color is tangible and can be shaped into weapons, barriers, projectiles, platforms, restraints, or other constructs. The bearer can also manipulate Color already present in the world by changing properties such as Hue, Saturation, Chroma, Value, and Lightness, or by assigning, removing, transferring, combining, and separating Colors.

This direct manipulation of Color forms Tincture’s first Base Expression, Chromatic.

Tincture’s second Base Expression comes from the fact that humanity has always given meaning to Color. Red can represent Power, Blood, Danger, Love, or Fortune. Orange can represent Fire. Blue can represent Water, Sadness, Calm, or Resource, while Black can represent Darkness, Fear, Authority, or Death.

These meanings are called Associations.

Through Ascribe, the bearer can make an Association they genuinely understand become a real phenomenon through the Color carrying it. Orange can burn and spread as Fire, Blue can flow and crash as Water, while Red can be channeled internally through Power to increase physical strength and cursed-energy output.

The bearer must genuinely understand an Association before they can use it. Simply knowing that Red symbolizes good fortune is not necessarily enough; they need to understand why that relationship exists strongly enough for it to become part of their own understanding of Red.

Once an Association becomes usable, mastery determines how well it can be expressed. A newly learned association between Blue and Water may begin with simple flowing attacks, while greater mastery can develop into currents, pressure, concentrated jets, and other applications genuinely associated with Water.

Associations are also not permanently fixed. Humanity continues creating new meanings through culture, religion, language, technology, art, media, and social convention. If a new relationship between a Color and an idea becomes genuinely established, Tincture can eventually recognize it as an Association as well.

This does not mean the bearer can simply declare that “Blue means Fire now” and make it true. The Association has to genuinely exist, whether within an individual, a group, a culture, or humanity more broadly.

Tincture also cannot copy another sorcerer’s innate technique simply because it happens to possess a particular Color. Being colored is not the same as meaning through Color. Ascribe can reproduce genuine phenomena represented through Color, but it cannot reproduce another person’s engraved cursed technique or the individual mechanics behind it.

Base Expression: Chromatic

Chromatic is the direct manipulation of Color itself and the most basic expression of Tincture.

The bearer can manifest tangible Color through cursed energy, manipulate Color already present within the environment, and alter the properties that determine what Color something is and how that Color is expressed. Manifested Color can be shaped into weapons, barriers, projectiles, platforms, restraints, armor, or other constructs through ordinary cursed-energy control.

Without Ascribe, these Colors possess no additional phenomenon simply because of their identity. Orange does not automatically burn, Blue does not automatically behave like Water, and Purple does not automatically produce Lightning. They remain tangible manifestations of Color whose strength depends on the bearer’s cursed energy, output, compression, and control.

Chromatic can also alter existing Color rather than creating it from scratch. The bearer can change one Color into another, adjust properties such as Hue, Saturation, Chroma, Value, and Lightness, or extract, transfer, combine, and separate Colors. A Color already present in the environment is just as valid for Tincture as one created by the bearer.

Color can also be channeled internally through the bearer’s body and cursed energy. On its own, this does not provide any special effect beyond establishing that Color internally, but it becomes extremely important once Ascribe is used alongside it.

Producing a Color and understanding what that Color means are therefore two separate forms of mastery. The bearer may be capable of perfectly creating Crimson, Azure, Magenta, or another specialized Color while knowing very little about the Associations attached to it.

Base Expression: Ascribe

Ascribe allows the bearer to make the meanings associated with a Color become genuine phenomena.

Human beings attach meaning to Color constantly. Some Associations come from nature, such as Blue with Water or Orange with Fire. Others come from emotions, culture, religion, symbolism, technology, media, or social convention. Red can represent Power, Blood, Danger, Love, Anger, or Fortune, while Black can represent Darkness, Fear, Authority, Mourning, or Death.

Ascribe allows the bearer to select one of these meanings and express it through the corresponding Color. Orange can burn as Fire, Blue can flow as Water, White can move as Air, and Purple can discharge as Lightning. The Color itself remains the medium through which the phenomenon exists rather than disappearing and being replaced by an unrelated ability.

Ascribe can also be used internally. By channeling Red through its Association with Power, the bearer can increase physical strength, cursed-energy reinforcement, and output. Blue can be used through its modern Association with Resource to increase available cursed energy, while other Colors can affect the bearer’s senses, emotions, stamina, durability, or other internal systems depending on the meaning being expressed.

The bearer must genuinely understand an Association before they can use it. Knowing that a Color is associated with something is not always enough. They need to understand why that relationship exists strongly enough for the meaning to become part of their own understanding of the Color.

Once an Association becomes usable, mastery determines how completely it can be expressed. A beginner using Blue through Water may only create simple flowing attacks, while greater mastery can develop into currents, pressure, concentrated jets, buoyancy, and more complicated applications of Water.

Associations are also capable of changing over time. Humanity continues creating new chromatic meanings through culture, language, technology, art, media, religion, and repeated representation. If a new relationship between a Color and an idea becomes genuinely established, it can eventually become usable through Ascribe as well.

However, simply declaring that a Color means something does not make the Association real. The meaning has to genuinely exist, whether within an individual, a group, a culture, or humanity more broadly.

Ascribe also cannot copy another sorcerer’s innate technique simply because that technique happens to possess a particular Color. Being colored is not the same as meaning through Color. Tincture can reproduce a genuine phenomenon represented through chromatic meaning, but it cannot reproduce another person’s engraved cursed technique or the individual mechanics behind it.

Additionally, although Tincture does not treat Color and Light as the same thing, the bearer understands that light is one of reality’s primary ways of carrying Color through space.

Through Ascribe, manifested Color can therefore express the propagation associated with Light and travel at light speed. This is not limited to Yellow because the Association concerns how Color is being carried rather than the meaning of a particular Hue.

A Color can use this propagation to cross the battlefield almost instantly before expressing another Association upon arrival. Using both at once, however, requires Polysemy. With sufficient mastery, the bearer can even apply the same principle to Color carrying their own body.

Basic Palette

Although Tincture can potentially use countless Colors and Associations, the bearer relies on a smaller Basic Palette that they have practiced enough to use naturally in combat. These are not abilities permanently assigned to each Color, but simply the meanings this particular bearer has developed the most.

Red is one of the bearer’s most important internal Colors because of its strong Associations with Power, Vitality, Danger, Blood, Anger, Love, and Fortune. Through Power, Red can increase physical strength, cursed-energy reinforcement, and the amount of cursed energy the bearer can release through an attack. Vitality allows them to remain functional through greater amounts of injury, while Danger acts more like supernatural threat awareness by drawing their attention toward genuine danger before they have fully processed it themselves.

Red also has much stranger possibilities beyond direct combat. Its connection to Blood can be developed into blood-related awareness and effects, while Anger, Love, and Passion allow the bearer to interact with those emotions. Its cultural association with Good Fortune and Prosperity gives Red access to favorable circumstances as well, although those meanings require much deeper understanding than something as immediate as Power or Danger.

Orange is the bearer’s most straightforward destructive Color because of its overwhelming Association with Fire. When Fire is Ascribed to Orange, the Color itself can burn, spread, produce heat, ignite matter, and behave like flame without actually becoming ordinary fire.

Greater mastery can develop this into more refined control over Heat, Combustion, and thermal effects, while Orange’s wider Associations with Energy, Activity, Courage, and Excitement make it useful internally when the bearer needs to remain aggressive and active during combat.

Yellow is primarily associated with Light, Clarity, Attention, and Stamina. Through Light, Yellow can illuminate an area, create intense flashes, produce glare, and develop other effects connected to radiance and visibility.

Internally, Yellow can sharpen attention and help the bearer maintain mental clarity during complicated uses of Tincture. Its modern association with stamina bars and endurance meters also allows Yellow to increase how long the bearer can continue exerting themselves before fatigue begins interfering with their performance.

Green forms the bearer’s main vocabulary for Life, Growth, Health, Restoration, and Poison. Through Life and Growth, Green can interact with living systems and encourage biological development, while Health and Restoration allow it to push damaged tissue or living structures back toward a healthier condition.

However, Green is also one of the most common Colors used to represent Poison, Toxicity, and Contamination, especially throughout modern media. This gives the same Color a strong offensive side, allowing it to express harmful biological or toxic effects depending on what the bearer has mastered.

Blue is centered around Water, Resource, Calm, Focus, and eventually Cold or Ice. Through Water, Blue can flow, crash, surround targets, form currents, produce pressure, and be shaped into large moving masses.

Its most important internal use comes from the modern association between Blue and mana, energy bars, and replenishable resources. By Ascribing Resource through Blue, the bearer can increase the amount of cursed energy available to them. Calm and Focus also make Blue especially useful when maintaining complicated applications of Tincture.

This creates an important distinction within the bearer’s internal combat system: Red increases how much power can be released, Yellow helps the body continue exerting itself, and Blue increases how much cursed energy is available to spend.

Purple is primarily used through its Association with Lightning, allowing the Color to branch, conduct, shock, and discharge electricity. This makes Purple one of the bearer’s fastest and most directly offensive Colors.

Its wider semantic field includes Spirituality, Mystery, Royalty, and the Supernatural, which gives Purple unusual value within jujutsu. With enough understanding, it can improve the bearer’s sensitivity toward curses, supernatural presences, or unusual cursed-energy phenomena rather than simply functioning as an electrical Color.

White is associated most strongly with Air, Wind, Purity, Cleansing, and Peace. Through Air, White can create currents, pressure, propulsion, and aerial movement, making it one of the bearer’s main mobility Colors.

Its Associations with Purity and Cleansing can also be developed into more specialized defensive or restorative effects. White is particularly useful because its combat role does not need to remain purely offensive or defensive; it can support movement, battlefield control, and purification depending on what the bearer needs.

Black possesses one of the most dangerous semantic fields in the Basic Palette, including Darkness, Fear, Authority, Death, the Unknown, and Black Flash. Darkness allows Black to obscure visibility and suppress illumination, while Fear can interact with the emotional response created by what cannot be seen or understood.

Death is a much more difficult Association. Understanding Black as a Color of mourning and mortality makes Death a legitimate phenomenon it can eventually express, but it does not make every Black attack instantly lethal. The depth of the effect depends heavily upon the bearer’s understanding and mastery.

Within jujutsu society, Black also possesses a unique relationship with Black Flash. Black Flash is a universal cursed-energy phenomenon rather than another sorcerer’s innate technique, and its identity is explicitly tied to Black within jujutsu culture. A bearer who genuinely understands that relationship can therefore potentially express Black Flash through Black itself, eventually allowing them to reproduce the phenomenon intentionally instead of relying entirely on the natural timing that makes ordinary Black Flash so difficult to perform.

Brown gives the bearer a defensive vocabulary through its Associations with Earth, Durability, Stability, Grounding, and Endurance. Brown can behave as Earth to form walls, terrain, pillars, and other defensive structures, while its internal use can make the bearer physically harder to break or knock away.

Durability and Stability also make Brown useful for reinforcing Color constructs. This creates another clean distinction within the Palette: Brown helps prevent damage from occurring, while Red helps the bearer continue functioning after damage has already been taken.

Together, these Colors give the bearer a strong combat foundation involving offense, defense, mobility, restoration, perception, physical enhancement, and cursed-energy management. They are still only the simplest part of what Tincture can eventually learn to express.

Advanced Applications

As the bearer becomes more experienced, they stop thinking about Color only through broad categories such as Red, Blue, or Green. Their understanding begins expanding into the properties, variations, systems, and relationships that make Color much more complicated than a basic palette.

Chromatic can eventually manipulate properties such as Transparency, Opacity, Luster, and Achromatism, allowing the bearer much greater control over how a Color is expressed. A transparent Blue remains genuinely Blue, while metallic Red remains Red despite its metallic appearance. These properties do not automatically grant unrelated physical abilities; Transparency is not inherently intangibility, and metallic Color is not automatically actual metal.

The bearer also becomes capable of working with much more specific Colors such as Crimson, Vermilion, Azure, Indigo, Gold, Silver, Magenta, Amber, and countless others. These specialized Colors can possess meanings that differ from their broader Color family. Crimson may have a stronger relationship with Blood, Vermilion with Protection or Sacredness, Azure with the Sky, and Amber with Preservation. Their advantage is not that they are stronger than broad Colors, but that their meanings can be much more precise.

Metallic Colors develop especially rich Associations of their own. Gold can represent Victory, Wealth, Glory, or the Sun, while Silver can represent the Moon, Reflection, Protection, or a supernatural bane. Copper possesses a particularly strong connection with Conductivity, while Bronze can represent Durability and Platinum can represent Rarity or exceptional status.

Advanced mastery also teaches the bearer that there is no single universal rule for how Colors combine. Additive, subtractive, and traditional artistic Color systems all organize Colors differently, and Tincture can use these different systems as legitimate methods of combining and separating Color. This gives the bearer much greater freedom to change which Colors, and therefore which Associations, are available during combat.

More unusual chromatic states such as Neon, Fluorescent, Phosphorescent, Pearlescent, Prismatic, Metallic, and Superblack can also be reproduced directly through Chromatic. These states do not automatically reproduce every physical property of their real-world counterparts, but their unique chromatic identities can create additional Associations for Ascribe.

At higher levels, the bearer can even interfere with Color perception. Two Colors can be made difficult for an opponent to distinguish, one Color can be mistaken for another, or several specialized shades can collapse into a broader category. A Purple attack can remain genuinely Purple while an opponent perceives it as Orange, causing them to prepare for Fire before being struck by Lightning instead.

Eventually, the bearer can combine several of these ideas within the same manifestation. A Color might be transparent, metallic, highly specific in shade, and carrying several useful meanings at once, allowing the bearer to build increasingly specialized applications without needing an entirely separate technique for each one.

Despite Tincture’s enormous theoretical range, no bearer automatically masters every Color or Association. Their actual fighting style is determined by their Personal Palette, the Colors, meanings, and advanced expressions they have spent enough time understanding and practicing to use reliably.

Neutral Application: Colorless

Colorless is the Neutral Application of Tincture and allows the bearer to gradually adapt to foreign cursed-energy phenomena by translating them into Color.

Many cursed techniques do not naturally possess a Color that Tincture can manipulate. A spatial distortion, barrier, cutting effect, or unusual cursed-energy property may have no meaningful chromatic identity at all. Colorless solves this by learning what the phenomenon does and gradually giving that supernatural effect a Color that represents it.

This process begins whenever the bearer meaningfully interacts with the phenomenon. Being struck by it, defending against it, touching it, resisting its effects, or repeatedly observing how it behaves can all provide information. The more the bearer understands, the more completely Tincture can represent that phenomenon through Color.

Adaptation is gradual rather than all-or-nothing. Early understanding may only allow the bearer to slightly interfere with the effect, weaken a property they understand, or disrupt part of its structure. As more of the phenomenon becomes chromatically understood, Tincture gains greater control over it.

Once the bearer fully understands the manifested phenomenon, it becomes completely chromatically legible to Tincture. Chromatic can then remove the Color representing that supernatural effect, effectively rendering the phenomenon Colorless and stripping away the meaning that allowed the cursed energy to behave in that way.

This does not erase reality itself or give the bearer the opponent’s cursed technique. If Colorless adapts to a spatial effect, it removes the supernatural manipulation being imposed on space rather than space itself. Likewise, adapting to one application of a cursed technique does not automatically reveal every other ability belonging to that technique.

A useful example is Infinity. Infinity has no natural Color, so Tincture cannot simply remove it on first contact. Colorless would first need to understand that the obstruction is spatial, how the divided distance interferes with approach, and what makes that manifested effect function. As that understanding develops, the bearer gains increasing influence over Infinity until the phenomenon can eventually be fully translated and stripped away.

Completed adaptations are retained. Once Colorless has fully learned a particular cursed-energy phenomenon, the bearer does not need to start from zero the next time they encounter the same effect.

Once a phenomenon has been completely stripped of the chromatic identity carrying its original supernatural meaning, the bearer can potentially reassign a new Color to what remains. The original technique is not copied or restored; its supernatural identity has already been removed. The remaining cursed energy can instead become another chromatic medium for Tincture and potentially receive an entirely different Association through Ascribe.

Extension Technique: Polysemy

Polysemy allows a single Color to express multiple Associations at the same time.

Rather than using separate instances of Red for Power, Vitality, and Danger, the bearer can channel one Red manifestation carrying all three meanings simultaneously. Blue could express Water and Cold, Brown could combine Earth and Durability, while Black could carry Darkness and Fear through the same manifestation.

Each Association remains distinct rather than merging into a new phenomenon. The bearer is simply making the same Color support several valid meanings at once, allowing one manifestation to perform multiple functions without needing to constantly switch between them.

This becomes especially useful with Colors that already possess several closely connected meanings. Red enhanced through Power and Vitality can make the bearer stronger while also helping them continue functioning through injury, while a Black construct carrying Darkness and Fear can obscure an area while simultaneously amplifying the fear associated with what cannot be seen.

The bearer must already understand every Association being used, and Polysemy does not strengthen weaker meanings just because they are paired with stronger ones. The difficulty also increases as more Associations are layered together, especially when their effects are complicated, demanding, or naturally difficult to maintain at the same time.

Extension Technique: Colorfullness

Colorfullness pushes Chromatic beyond simply creating or altering Color by increasing how fully that Color exists within reality.

This can increase the amount, scale, concentration, vividness, and persistence of a Color without changing what Color it actually is. A small Red manifestation can expand into an enormous mass without becoming diluted, while the same increased chromatic presence can instead be compressed into a smaller weapon or construct.

Colorfullness can also make Color persist after the original manifestation has moved. A slash can leave genuine Red hanging along its path, a projectile can leave Color suspended across its trajectory, and the bearer’s movement can create real chromatic afterimages rather than simple visual illusions. Because these remnants are still genuine Color, they remain usable through Chromatic and Ascribe.

Greater Colorfullness also strengthens Color Constancy, allowing a Color to stubbornly remain itself despite lighting, surrounding Colors, or other ordinary conditions that would normally alter its appearance.

When combined with Ascribe, Colorfullness does not improve the bearer’s understanding of an Association. It simply provides a much larger, denser, or longer-lasting chromatic medium through which that Association can be expressed.

Extension Technique: Contexture

Contexture allows the bearer to manipulate Color through the relationships and conditions that determine how Colors exist beside one another.

Color is not always independent. Surrounding Colors can make another appear lighter, darker, warmer, cooler, or more intense. Complementary Colors can oppose one another or make each other appear more vivid. Two physically different sources can produce the same perceived Color, while something iridescent can genuinely display different Colors depending on angle or observation.

Contexture makes these relationships supernatural.

Complementary Colors can be arranged to reinforce or interfere with one another, while surrounding Colors can force genuine changes through simultaneous contrast. Separate manifestations that genuinely converge upon the same Color can be treated as chromatically equivalent even if their physical origins are completely different.

The bearer can also create conditional Colors through principles such as iridescence. A manifestation may genuinely be Blue from one angle and Purple from another, allowing its available Associations to change alongside its Color. Blue might express Water until the relationship changes, at which point the same manifestation becomes Purple and can instead express Lightning.

At higher levels, Contexture can even manipulate how Colors are distinguished by an observer, allowing one Color to be mistaken for another or several specialized shades to become perceptually indistinguishable.

Extension Technique: Imaginary

Imaginary allows the bearer to create a Color that does not naturally exist within ordinary human chromatic experience, taking inspiration from impossible colors and the way meaningless words can gradually acquire meaning.

Because the Color is genuinely unfamiliar, it begins without any established cultural, emotional, religious, or symbolic Associations. Humanity has no prior history telling it what that Color is supposed to mean.

The bearer can take advantage of that emptiness by repeatedly connecting the new Color to a chosen phenomenon or concept. In the same way that a meaningless word can eventually gain meaning through repeated use and shared understanding, an Imaginary Color can gradually develop its first Association through Ascribe.

Unlike a Created Association, Imaginary does not begin with an existing Color and teach it another meaning. It creates both a new Color and its first definition.

This allows the bearer to make the meaning unusually precise. Rather than creating a Color that simply represents Gravity, for example, they could develop one whose first meaning is specifically that anything touched by the Color is gravitationally attracted toward its center.

The bearer is not gaining unrestricted authority over whatever concept appears in that definition. A Color built around one gravitational operation does not grant complete control over Gravity. It performs the particular effect that was successfully defined through it.

Creating one requires extraordinary understanding because humanity has provided neither the Color nor its meaning beforehand. Once a successful Impossible Color and its definition have been established, however, that pairing becomes part of the bearer’s Personal Palette and can be reproduced and refined.

This relationship cannot simply be declared into existence. The bearer must repeatedly establish a genuine connection between the Color and its intended meaning before Ascribe can recognize it. If other people begin recognizing the same Color and meaning together, the Association can spread beyond the bearer and become increasingly established.

Cursed Technique Reversal: Bleach

Bleach is the Cursed Technique Reversal of Tincture. Where Tincture normally gives Color presence and allows Color to carry meaning, Bleach does the opposite: it washes away Color and degrades the meaning being carried through it.

The Reversal manifests as a pale, caustic substance resembling supernatural bleach. Anything sufficiently permeated by it begins losing its chromatic identity directly.

A Red surface can fade until its Red is gone, Blue can lose its Blueness, and multicolored objects can have their individual Colors progressively washed away. This is not pigment being chemically destroyed or someone being tricked into seeing less Color; Bleach acts upon the Color itself.

More importantly, Bleach can also attack Ascribed meaning. If Orange is expressing Fire, Bleach can progressively wash away the relationship allowing that Orange to burn. Brown expressing Durability can lose that reinforcement, while an internally maintained Red carrying Power can weaken as its Color and meaning are stripped away. Stronger, fuller, or heavily reinforced Color naturally requires more Bleach to overcome.

This gives Bleach some effectiveness against foreign cursed-energy phenomena as well. Cursed energy carrying a supernatural effect has been organized to mean and perform something, and Bleach can corrode that organization where it successfully permeates it. A barrier can weaken, reinforcement can be degraded, or a manifested technique can begin losing the supernatural structure keeping its effect intact.

This is importantly different from Colorless. Colorless studies an unfamiliar phenomenon, gradually translates its supernatural identity into Color, and eventually gains precise authority to remove it. Bleach does not need to understand what it is touching first. It simply erodes Color and semantic structure directly, making it much faster against unfamiliar phenomena but considerably less precise than a completed Colorless adaptation.

Bleach also inherits the very literal human understanding of bleach as a caustic and poisonous substance. Contact can burn and damage tissue, with greater concentrations producing more severe effects. This makes the Reversal dangerous even against targets that have nothing chromatically unusual about them.

A sorcerer can still protect themselves through cursed-energy reinforcement and heal the resulting damage with Reverse Cursed Technique, but internal exposure is much more dangerous. If Bleach is inhaled, swallowed, forced into a wound, or otherwise enters the body, the victim has to defend and heal themselves while the substance is already contacting internal tissue and cursed energy.

Healing the damage also does not automatically remove the Bleach causing it, allowing newly restored tissue to be injured again while contamination remains.

Bleach does not permanently erase another person’s cursed technique or remove an Association from humanity itself. It attacks the Color and supernatural meaning currently instantiated in its target. A technique whose manifestation is washed away can still be produced again, reinforcement can be reapplied, and an Ascribed Color can be restored if its user is capable of establishing it again.

Maximum Technique

Tincture possesses no known Maximum Technique.

Like Limitless, Shrine, and Copy, this is not due to any lack of power. The sheer breadth of Color and the countless ways its chromatic and semantic properties can be developed have simply left Tincture’s true Maximum undiscovered.

Domain Expansion: Canvas of Endless Possibility

Canvas of Endless Possibility manifests as an enormous White expanse resembling an untouched artist’s canvas. Brushes, palettes, pencils, paint buckets, rollers, containers of pigment, and other tools associated with humanity’s creation of Color are scattered throughout the space, ranging from ordinary objects to enormous structures towering over the battlefield.

The Domain always begins almost completely White, but does not remain that way. Every Color manifested or imposed through Tincture physically marks the Canvas. Blue can spread across the ground, Black can consume entire sections of the environment, persistent Red can remain along the path of an attack, and more complex chromatic states can gradually transform the once-empty space into something completely different.

Open and Closed Domain

Canvas of Endless Possibility can be manifested as either a closed or open Domain.

Its closed form encloses the target within the Canvas normally, allowing the bearer to control a contained chromatic environment while preventing ordinary escape. Its open form instead overlays the Canvas directly across existing reality, turning buildings, terrain, objects, and everything else within its range into part of the same workable chromatic space without creating an exterior shell.

Both forms possess the same sure-hit. The difference is whether the bearer prioritizes containment or effective range.

Sure-Hit: Chromatic Access

The sure-hit of Canvas of Endless Possibility grants Tincture direct chromatic access to everything within the Domain.

Ordinarily, the bearer needs Color to already exist upon something, manifest Color themselves, or otherwise establish a valid chromatic medium before Tincture can affect it. Inside the Canvas, that requirement disappears. Anything caught within the Domain is automatically recognized as something that can be colored.

The bearer can directly impose Red, Blue, Black, Gold, specialized Hues, Transparency, metallic Color, Achromatism, or any other chromatic state they have mastered upon people, objects, terrain, cursed energy, barriers, and manifested cursed techniques. An opponent can resist the alteration through cursed-energy reinforcement and refinement, but they cannot prevent Tincture from reaching them simply by lacking the necessary Color beforehand.

Once Color has been successfully imposed, Ascribe functions normally through it. An opponent colored Red can become a medium for a mastered Red Association, a portion of their cursed energy turned Brown can be subjected to Brown’s meanings, and a manifested technique given a new Color can become vulnerable to whatever Associations legitimately belong to that Color.

The bearer can also distinguish between a sorcerer and the cursed energy surrounding them. An opponent may successfully resist having their body recolored while failing to protect their reinforcement, an emitted attack, or a barrier from being given Color instead.

Colorless Within the Canvas

Colorless becomes considerably more dangerous inside the Domain because every foreign cursed-energy phenomenon is already trapped within Tincture’s chromatic territory.

Unfamiliar phenomena still require adaptation and understanding, but Colorless can continuously study their activation, structure, output, resistance, and interaction with Tincture for as long as they remain inside the Canvas. As portions of the phenomenon become understood, the bearer can begin gaining partial chromatic authority over them.

Previously completed adaptations are even more dangerous. If Colorless already understands a phenomenon, the Domain provides immediate chromatic access to it, allowing the bearer to begin stripping its translated Color without needing to establish contact or rediscover its meaning first.

The Domain does not grant Associations the bearer has never learned, complete unfinished Colorless adaptations, or create Imaginary Colors automatically. It simply removes one of Tincture’s greatest practical limitations by making everything within its territory available to Color.

Side Notes
This Technique was extremely fun to make. In-universe, I think the closest comparison would probably be Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration. Just a relatively simple core ability that becomes ridiculous once you start exploring just how many different things can be done with it.

I also think Tincture has such a high ceiling because Color is everywhere and humanity keeps giving it new meaning.

The bearer is not limited to a fixed list of elements or effects so their growth depends on how deeply they understand Color itself, the Associations attached to it, specialized shades, chromatic systems, cultural symbolism, modern conventions, and eventually entirely new Colors through Imaginary. The technique can keep expanding alongside both the bearer’s knowledge and humanity’s chromatic language.

Color ended up being way deeper than I expected once I started looking into how much meaning humanity attaches to it, so there were honestly a ton of ideas and finer details I had to leave out to keep this post readable. If there’s anything you want a better explanation on, definitely ask below!

As always, I appreciate you all, and thank you for reading 🫶
