The world's largest online jigsaw puzzle ever.
There is one board, it has 1,000,000 pieces on it, they were all shuffled at the start, and everybody who opens the page lands on that same board. Whatever you place stays placed for everyone else.
It started three days ago and there is already noticeable progress!
At a million pieces a normal photo would fall apart and every piece would be a flat patch of colour, so the image is a mosaic instead. It is Earth, about 14 gigapixels, built out of roughly 10,750 separate photos. Zoom into a piece you are holding and you get an actual photograph with actual detail.
There is almost no help. No sorting, no filtering, no edge finder, no hint lighting up the piece you need. You get the reference image and your own eyes, and that is it. It is hardcore on purpose.
No account needed. Click play, pick a name, pick your country, and you are on the canvas. Free, no ads, nothing to install. Your country shows up as a flag next to your name on the leaderboard, so you can go represent yours and climb the standings while you are at it.
When someone else is working near you, you see their cursor moving around and dragging their own pieces.
No timer either. Put one piece down on a coffee break and close the tab. This is meant to take months.
Finding a piece's neighbour among a million is exactly as absurd as it sounds. Can you lock a piece in?
