Context: My players are going now lvl6, we already pass Vallaki and Yester Hill, they were going to the Castle for the Dinner with Strahd (With the Traitorous Bride sub trama [Look it here], is great for exploring the Castle and not only fear for their lives). BUT, they decide to take revenge in the Coven of Barovia, going to the Bonegrider.
Long story short… they succeeded, but the Paladin died in the process.
The Paladin's player and I had been planning a lot of future arcs; he absolutely LOVED his character (and this is his first-ever character death). I'm thinking of having a Dark Power offer him a second chance… for a price (still to be defined), which would definitely force him to return as an Oathbreaker Paladin.
I think this is a fantastic narrative hook to bring the Dark Powers closer to the players and show them the bigger picture of the Domains of Dread (I run all my campaigns in them). However, I'm worried the Oathbreaker subclass might be a bit overpowered for this level, especially with the Control Undead Channel Divinity feature and the Aura of Hate.
Should I nerf or completely remove that feature, or is it fine as written? What do you think?
(English is not my first language, so I apologize for any grammar mistakes!)
