The feature my user said was missing had been shipped for a month

I emailed the people using my voice notes app and asked one question: what is wrong with it. I did not ask for a review or a rating, just what annoyed them.

Two of them wrote back properly, and between them they rewrote my roadmap.

The first said the app hung. I checked the server logs for his session. The AI had done its work in about five seconds. The other 150 seconds were the phone failing to resolve DNS and quietly waiting out a timeout I had set far too long, while a progress animation looped through the same five messages over and over. It was not connected to anything real. He sat there watching it cycle and reasonably concluded the app had frozen.

The second one is the part I keep thinking about. He told me the app does not save a transcript of what you said. It does. It always has. It was sitting at the bottom of the note screen, in grey, collapsed, under four other sections. A careful person looking directly for it concluded it did not exist.

That has now happened twice with two different features. Both times I assumed I had a missing feature problem. Both times I had a discovery problem, which is a completely different fix and much cheaper.

So the release I shipped this week is almost entirely their release. Faster honest failures, a progress screen that shows the real elapsed time instead of a loop, the transcript moved directly under the summary, and a note that finishes itself when your connection comes back instead of waiting for you to notice.
