A constantly changing combat style combining swordsmanship, acrobatics, cards, illusions, strings, probability, her performance sorcery, and position exchange.

Unique Mechanics with the Nightmare Spell:

Saint Jest: Father
Luce’s father and the person responsible for much of her upbringing within Valor. She was raised and groomed to eventually become one of the Domain’s Saints.
Anvil: Patron
Anvil considered Luce one of Valor’s most valuable future assets.
Her ability to manipulate fortune and possibility gave him hope that, should she eventually achieve Supremacy, she might be capable of mitigating his flaw and allowing him to feel again.
Summer Knight: Friend
One of Luce’s closest friends.
Their personalities differ considerably, but their friendship and battlefield compatibility developed over years of fighting together.
Morgan: Friend
A longtime friend and training partner from Luce’s years within Valor.
Morgan’s disciplined nature contrasts strongly with Luce’s theatrical behavior, although the two understand one another extremely well.
Cassie: Former Confidant
Cassie became one of Luce’s friends and confidants.
When Luce discovered her betrayal, she retaliated by constructing an illusion based upon Cassie’s own memories and the memories of people connected to her, which included the lord of the shadow because he had one of his avatars in Cassie's shadow when gathering material for the illusion.
She combined the illusion with sorcery, which included the memories of Sunny because Cassie betrayed him the most, the illusion forcing Cassie to experience the betrayals she had inflicted from the perspective of the people affected.
This caused a serious confrontation with Nephis.
And a vague sense of satisfaction from Sunny.
Lore:
Luce Rubis was born into Saint Jest’s household and raised within Clan Valor, where becoming Awakened was treated as an expectation rather than a possibility. She grew up around Valor’s retainers, became close to Morgan and Summer Knight, and knew Mordret before his disappearance.
As her aspect developed, Anvil took particular interest in her affinity over fortune and possibility. Mordret became one of Luce’s first reasons to distrust Valor. She had known him before his removal from the clan, but the truth was hidden from her.
When she eventually learned that Anvil had given Mordret to Asterion and that Mordret’s own Flaw later shattered him into seven incomplete selves, and when Mordret came back he was sealed, she briefly rebelled against Valor before eventually returning.
During the Domain War, Luce served primarily as a battlefield-control Saint. Her illusions concealed formations, created false troops and terrain, and gave exhausted soldiers controlled mental environments where they could experience extended rest in much shorter real time.
She also became close to Cassie. When Cassie and Nephis appeared to betray Valor and injured her father while defecting to Song, Luce took it personally. In anger, she forced Cassie through an illusion built from her own memories, and also Sunny, who was nearby, made her experience the suffering caused by her betrayals from the victims’ perspectives.
After Anvil and Ki Song fell and the Human Domain was created, Luce refused to immediately submit to Nephis. She followed Jest and Summer Knight into exile, where the remaining Valor loyalists lived under brutal conditions. Luce helped keep the settlement functional through governance, supplies, morale, recovery, and civilian organization.
During the Asterion takeover. Later, when Morgan asked the exiles to return to war to fight Mordret and Asterion, Luce joined them not because she had forgiven Nephis or Cassie, but because humanity’s survival mattered more than old loyalties; she even prevented Summer Knight from dying.
She has since become involved in the struggle against Asterion and the Hunger Domain while also preparing for a Fourth Nightmare Seed unusually suited to her aspect.
Current Situation:
Luce is currently fighting alongside the former Valor exiles after their return from exile, using her illusion to distort the name or idea of asterion into something else, making them resistant or immune to his domain influence.
Her relationship with Cassie is complicated by resentment and the knowledge that she never understood the full situation surrounding Cassie’s apparent betrayal and that Cassie was also using her. Summer Knight remains one of the people she is most determined to protect alongside her father.
At the same time, Luce is preparing for a Fourth Nightmare Seed that appears exceptionally compatible with her path. She still considers natural supremacy possible, but the growing hunger crisis is pushing her toward the Nightmare Spell instead.
Her immediate goal is simple: reach Supremacy before humanity runs out of time.
