harinamamrta-vyakaranam.com : Cherished UPDATE for all Sanskrit Learners [Website Announcement]

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Introducing Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam — A Comprehensive Digital Platform for Sanskrit Learning

Hare Kṛṣṇa

I am pleased to introduce harinamamrta-vyakaranam.com, a digital initiative dedicated to Śrī Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam, the Sanskrit grammatical work of Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī, one of the foremost ācāryas of the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition.

The vision is to develop a comprehensive environment where Sanskrit learners can study grammar systematically, analyse words, practise grammatical rules, consult dictionaries, read scriptures, and access essential learning resources—all with Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam at the heart of the project.

1. Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam: The Grammar

The website provides a structured presentation of the grammar, organized into its principal prakaraṇas:

  • Saṁjñā-Sandhi
  • Nāma
  • Ākhyāta
  • Kāraka
  • Kṛdanta
  • Samāsa
  • Taddhita

The learning framework brings together sūtras, transliteration, synonyms, vṛtti, translations, and supplementary notes wherever available. Chapter navigation, expandable sūtra entries, and direct sūtra lookup help learners study systematically and revisit individual rules.

2. Interactive Grammar Tools

The Tools section is intended to make Sanskrit grammar practical and accessible, using the grammatical framework of Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam.

HNV Grammar Tools

  • Sandhi Splitter / Joiner — work with Sanskrit words and their combinations.
  • Declension Generator (Śabda-Rūpa) — generate nominal forms.
  • Case Identifier — investigate grammatical case and its identification.
  • Kṛdanta / Taddhita Generator — explore primary and secondary derivational forms.
  • Samāsa Solver — examine Sanskrit compounds.
  • Visarga & Anusvāra Rules Checker — work with these important sound and orthographic rules.
  • Chandas Analyzer — analyse Sanskrit metre.

Text Utilities

  • Multi-script converter for IAST, Devanāgarī, Bengali, and Odia.
  • Online IAST keyboard.
  • Citation generator.

These tools aim to reduce the friction of working with Sanskrit forms and help learners connect grammatical theory with actual language.

3. Dictionaries and Lexical Resources

Finding the meaning, derivation, or related vocabulary of a Sanskrit word is an essential part of śāstra study. The planned dictionary and lexicon collection includes:

  • Integrated Search across resources such as Monier-Williams and Apte.
  • Dhātu Dictionary, drawing on HNV and Aṣṭādhyāyī-related resources.
  • HNV Glossary Search for grammatical terminology.
  • Pāṇini vs. HNV Term Mapper to explore terminology across grammatical systems.
  • Synonym / Antonym Finder, with reference to the Amarakośa.

The aim is to make lexical research and grammatical reference more convenient within a single learning environment.

4. Practice and Learning

Understanding a rule is only the beginning; applying it is what develops competence.

The platform's Practice section is designed to include:

  • Practice across all grammar chapters.
  • Calculations and grammatical analysis using cached results and name-based lookup.
  • Interactive learning games, including activities suitable for children.
  • Sūtra memorization games.
  • Audio-assisted practice for selected sūtra-learning activities.

The broader goal is to help learners move from reading grammatical rules to recognizing and applying them independently.

5. Scripture Study

The Scriptures section is dedicated to two foundational texts:

  • Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam — organized by canto, chapter, and verse.
  • Bhagavad-gītā — organized by chapter and verse.

The reading framework supports Sanskrit text alongside study material such as anvaya, word-for-word meanings, translations, and commentaries wherever available. Planned reading facilities include direct verse navigation, previous/next controls, side-by-side passage comparison, collapsible reading panels, and Sanskrit-script switching.

6. Wiki, Notes, and Personal Study

The wider development plan also includes resources for building a more continuous learning experience:

  • Wiki — an interactive learning hub for organized explanations and detailed study.
  • Anvayās — organized material for Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Bhagavad-gītā, and other scriptures, with provision for adding or editing content.
  • Notes — a personal reference space for recording observations while learning.
  • Bookmarks — save locations and return to the same place later.
  • Dark/Light Mode — choose a reading appearance suited to your preference.

Availability varies by feature as development progresses.

7. More Resources

The wider platform plan includes:

  • Biographies of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava ācāryas.
  • Comprehensive lists and details of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava ācāryas' books.
  • Downloads of PDFs, EPUBs, audio files, and other learning materials.
  • Media resources, including audio recitations, video lectures, and chanting guides.
  • FAQs, contribution opportunities, and website changelogs.
  • A free space for self-study or sharing useful material.

The home page is also designed to feature a Verse of the Day, a Vaiṣṇava calendar, and a Daily Subhāṣita.

8. Accessible Across Devices

The website is being developed with convenient navigation, mobile-friendly reading, and independently accessible pages for grammatical rules and scripture verses. The longer-term concept also envisions Android and iOS applications.

Some items above are already available, while others represent ongoing or future development; the website itself is the best place to check the current state of each feature.

Why Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam?

Sanskrit learners often need to move between grammar books, reference works, dictionaries, practice materials, and scripture editions. This project seeks to bring many of those activities together while preserving the central place of Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī's grammatical tradition.

The aspiration is not simply to digitize a text, but to build a useful environment for studying, practising, researching, and teaching Sanskrit through Harināmāmṛta-Vyākaraṇam.

I warmly welcome feedback from Sanskrit scholars, traditional grammarians, students, researchers, and developers. Suggestions, corrections, and constructive discussion are highly appreciated.
