Dns exploit not working

I am trying to do the dns exploit on my 2ds. I already have a hotspot without a password and I tried many dns codes from reddit and youtube but every time I try to receive mystery gift, it would show that its conncted but a few seconds later, a pop up would show up and say its been discountinued. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any info
