Where domain hunters compare notes

I got tired of configuring the same 5 things every time I spun up an LXC… so I automated my entire Proxmox provisioning workflow

I've been gradually automating my homelab and finally got this working well enough that I thought it might be worth sharing.

Proxmox is my source of truth. I create a new LXC/VM exactly as I normally would — including using the Proxmox Community Scripts — and once provisioning finishes, a webhook kicks off an n8n workflow.

From there, everything else happens automatically via api calls:

  • Detects the new LXC/VM and its IP/port
  • Creates the DNS record
  • Creates the Nginx Proxy Manager proxy host with SSL
  • Updates my services.yml inventory in Git – this is for inventory
  • Adds the service to Homarr as an app and a tile to the bottom of my board
  • Sends notifications through ntfy if anything fails

So in practice I can spin up a new app in Proxmox, wait for it to finish, and it's basically ready to use without me bouncing between Proxmox, DNS, NPM, Git and Homarr doing the same repetitive setup every time.

Proxmox remains the source of truth rather than maintaining a separate inventory/database, and n8n is essentially acting as the glue/control plane between everything.

It's working really well in my setup and has removed a surprising amount of repetitive admin.

Before I spend a load of time cleaning up the workflows, removing my environment-specific bits and documenting how to deploy it, I wanted to gauge whether there's actually any interest in something like this.

Would anyone here find this useful?

If there's enough interest, I'll clean up the repo and publish the whole thing and yes, it was mostly put together with Claude.
