Flint 3e – lag spike during gaming (79ms spike to 1000ms)

A month ago I upgraded my internet connection and ditched Xfinitys gateway for a arris modem and a flint 3e router. I upgraded to 2GB down 300MB upload. I've been using a VPN for the past few years and wanted a router kinda based around that, but also for home use. After getting it set up I'ved loved it!

I got AGH configured with quad 9 DNS servers and cloudflare backup servers. I have network acceleration turned on (Hardware). I tried having network acceleration turned off for the first week so I can use content filtering and stats, but I was having a massive downgrade in speed (700MB down), so I turned it back on. I was able to get my VPN set up with impressive speeds. I currently only have it running though my phone. Everything has been great….

…up to a few days ago when I tried playing Marvel Rivels. Now, I haven't tested this on another multiplayer game yet, but what happens is, when in game I get massive lag spikes often. About twice every ten seconds, from 79 ping to 500+ping. I've spent hours going though setting trying to figure it out. It worked fine before I switched.

What I've done to try and resolve the issue: Alternated DNS servers, Paused AGH, Turned off AGH, enabled Full Cone NAT, rebooted router and used default DNS (ISP).

My next step to try was using SQM, but I'm tired so I'll try this out tomorrow, unless otherwise advised.
