# What works today
**Your identity**
– No email, phone number or password database. Your persona is a key on your own devices, unlocked with a **passkey** or a passphrase.
– **Verified handles** (new): prove you own a domain and get a handle like **you@yourdomain.com** with a verified badge. People can find and message you by it. Free during the beta.
– **Identicons**: every persona gets a picture generated from its key, so look-alike names look visibly different.
– Use it on several devices: link a new one with a **QR code** or encrypted sync, and keep an encrypted **backup file**.
**Posting and reading**
– Posts, replies, boosts, favourites, u/mentions and #hashtags
– Polls, content warnings, images with alt text, and unlisted posts
– Profiles with avatars, headers and custom fields
– Public or private follows (private ones never leave your device), plus a home timeline, Explore and hashtag feeds
– Search, notifications, bookmarks and lists
– Mute, block and keyword filters, and reporting to moderators
– Drafts are saved on your device, encrypted, so a reload doesn't lose what you were writing
**Private conversations (end-to-end encrypted)**
– Direct messages and group chats. The servers carry them but can't read them.
– Encrypted file sharing, up to 100 MB
– Voice and video calls, including group voice rooms. Calls are relayed by default so the other person doesn't learn your IP address.
**Under the hood**
– Servers (relays) don't log IP addresses.
– Relays link up into a mesh and copy public posts between them, and the app switches to another relay if one goes down.
– Public posts are anchored to a tamper-evident chain, so anyone can check a post wasn't altered after the fact.
**Where to use it:** the web app at **app.cairnnet.com** (installable on your home screen), and an Android app in testing.
# What's coming
Roughly in the order we plan to work on it. No dates yet; it's a small team, and we'd rather ship things that work.

**Android for everyone**: the app is running on real phones now. Next: biometric unlock and a Play Store testing track. **iPhone** comes after that.

**Creator support**: sell a paid subscription to one of your groups, and tip any post. These are built and waiting for payments to be switched on.

**More ways to verify**: an identity-check option for people without a domain, and optional **name@cairnnet.com** handles.

**Video channels**: long-form video, with members-only channels for creators.

**Talking to other networks**: bridges to the fediverse (Mastodon and friends) and to Bluesky for public posts.
