Hey, so I'm a new RethinkDNS user, my goal with it is to have both a VPN running 24/7 as well as have DNS filtering/blocking to block trackers and telemetry.
I currently have my Proton WG config set and running in Advanced mode with both the Lockdown Mode as well as Always-on settings set to enabled.
I haven't changed any other settings in the app. Configure > DNS > Global header is set to "Rethink DNS > RDNS Plus (Sky)"
On a side note, what is the difference between Sky and Max and all the other options such as RDNS Default? Which one should I set?
To test the the DNS filtering, I first enabled a very simple block list for Instagram with just two entries:
– instagram dot com
– cdninstagram dot com
Then I tried opening the Instagram website through both Vanadium and Brave Browser and it loaded normally. After that I further tested by enabling a couple of social media block lists and still, reddit, Facebook, etc… Loaded normally.
So I was wondering what settings I need to change to have the DNS filtering work?
I did look through the settings myself for a bit but haven't tried anything yet of what I found as I'm new to networking and don't want to break anything.
There is the setting called "Split DNS (experimental)" available under Configure > DNS, this setting is enabled, maybe I need to disable this?
There is also the "Never Proxy DNS" setting which is disabled, do I need to enable this perhaps?
Besides this DNS filtering not working problem, everything seems to be working fine, I ran a couple of IP and DNS leak tests and all of them showed the WG config IP and DNS servers.
