DSM 7.1.1 Docker – what registry URL should I be using? (“cannot query registry” error)

I'm running DSM 7.1.1 and can't upgrade due to the hardware. The Docker package consistently returns "cannot query registry" when trying to get an image. For example, I'm trying to upgrade Jellyfin.

To reproduce:

  • Open the Docker package, go to Registry
  • Search for jellyfin in the top-right text box and see the official jellyfin/jellyfin package.
  • Double-click the package

Cursor will spin a bit and then eventually "Cannot query registry" will appear.

If I go to Registry->Settings, Docker Hub has "https://registry.hub.docker.com" as the value and it can't be edited in the GUI. I've read that this has now meant to have changed so I ssh'd in and edited /var/packages/Docker/registry.json to try values. https://hub.docker.com (didn't work) and then https://registry-1.docker.io (really didn't work – suddenly couldn't see the text listings either, so nothing to double click on).

The guides I read talk about settings DNS up or IPv6 or what have you – it's none of that, I tried those steps even though I was sceptical.

If I try to go to https://registry-1.docker.io in my web browser, I get a 404. If I try https://registry-1.docker.io/v2/ I get a response but it says unauthorised.

Any ideas of what I should be using?
