I'll keep it short. No guru stuff. I manage cold email for 2 marketing agencies right now. 200/day, every day. What I learned after getting blacklisted, getting 0% reply rate, and then finally getting to 8-12% positive reply rate:
The list is 80% of the game
Everyone focuses on copy. But if you email the wrong person, perfect copy won't save you.
I stopped scraping info@, marketing@ emails. Now I only find the decision maker (Founder/CMO/Head of Growth) and I research the company for 2-3 mins before. Recent LinkedIn post, tech stack, hiring page, etc.
Verification is non-negotiable
I use MillionVerifier + NeverBounce double check. If bounce rate goes over 3%, your domain is dead. I learned that the hard way.
Personalization != {FirstName}
This doesn't work anymore:
Hey {FirstName}, saw you at {Company}
This works:
Hey John, saw you just hired 2 media buyers last week, guessing you're scaling paid ads…
One real sentence based on research > 10 AI generated lines.
What actually kills deliverability
Sending 200 emails from 1 inbox
Link + attachment in first email
Words like "guaranteed ROI", "free audit", "scale to $100k"
My current average for agency clients:
200 sent -> 100-120 opened -> 8-12 positive replies -> 4-6 meetings booked
Not amazing, but consistent.
And if you're doing digital marketing and just want someone to handle the whole research + finding emails + sending part, I have 1 spot open.
