I checked my email today and found this in my Spam folder. I'm assuming it's a scam because it got put in my Spam folder, but I've also had legitimate emails get thrown in there before.
The name of the email is from a friend of mine back in high school, and the email address matches emails we've exchanged back then, but we've barely spoken since high school, certainly not within the last few years (we're not on bad terms or anything, just weren't close). That was the first red flag for me, getting a random invitation out of the blue. My next thought is it could be a high school reunion, but we're not at a 5, 10, 15, 20 or so year benchmark after graduation, and I'd be very surprised if he invited me to his wedding or something.
I made sure not to click anything in case it was a scam, so I moused over the "View Invitation" button and saw this link in the bottom left (censored out his name):
I didn't recognize "savemyday (dot) sbs" and looked it up, really didn't find much. The domain ending with .sbs was very suspicious to me. Another red flag.
I'm just not going to touch it for now. I've reached out to him on another platform (Steam), but that login is also based on email, so if his email has been compromised, it's likely that account has also been compromised. I have his old number, but we don't have a text history and I don't know if he still uses that number.
Could it be a spoof or a compromised email? My alarm bells have been going off about this and I don't want to move it out of spam in case downloading the images on the email would give me a virus or something.
