So, I created a Reddit Experimental extension for myself after getting fed up with a few things on Reddit.
This project is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Reddit Inc.; all third-party names, trademarks, logos, and assets belong to their respective owners.
https://github.com/saprecar/Cloakly
It is unlisted, but the project is available on GitHub as open source. It currently supports both Chromium-based browsers and Firefox.
What does it do?
- Username-based data It detects the Reddit username and saves extension data based on that account.
- Local data Data is stored locally and injected back into Reddit when needed. No central database is required.
- Open source The project is completely open source, so you can check how it works, modify it, or contribute.
- Shadowban check It can check whether an account appears to be shadowbanned.
- NSFW blur/reveal There are two modes:
- Use Reddit's default NSFW settings and allow the extension to reveal content.
- If Reddit's NSFW setting is disabled, the extension can apply its own NSFW blur.
- Subreddit and keyword blocking You can block:
- Specific subreddits
- Keywords
- Subreddit-specific keywords
These can be filtered both in the feed and inside individual subreddits.
- Community rules & account requirements It can display community guidelines and check basic account requirements, which can be useful for newer accounts before commenting or posting.
It also has experimental keyword checking for prohibited words or phrases based on community rules.
- User/account information While viewing comments or interacting with someone, it can show information such as:
- Comment karma
- Post karma
- Account age
- Contribution/activity information
This is intended to provide additional context before you interact with an account.
- Comment safety audit Before posting a comment, the extension can perform an experimental local check for things like:
- OTPs
- Personal information
- Sensitive numbers
- Social/security-related information
It uses pattern/regex-based checks and warns you if something potentially sensitive is detected.
- Suspicious/hidden-link detection For example, a link may display one domain but actually point somewhere else.
The extension can detect mismatched or suspicious links and warn you before opening them. This is currently experimental.
- Account Nuke An experimental offline feature for deleting your Reddit activity, such as posts, comments, votes, etc from account doest on reddit servers
- Reddit bots There are some predefined Reddit bots ready to use with one click.
You can also create/add your own bots if you want.
The project is mainly something I built for my own Reddit workflow, but I decided to keep it open source in case it is useful to someone else.
Some features are still experimental, so expect things to change and break occasionally.
