How to block ads on YouTube for Android

Hey everyone,

You know how annoying YouTube has become on your phone, with unskippable double ads, interruptions every few minutes, and constant pop-ups that ruin a video.

Although YouTube pushes Premium as the only option, there are actually several easy ways to get an ad-free YT on Android without paying.

We put together a quick breakdown of the easiest methods:

1. Block ads using an ad-blocking browser (this is the easiest way).

Instead of using the official YouTube app, open YouTube in a browser that focuses on privacy and blocks ads automatically.

  • Here's how it works: When you use browsers like the Stands AdBlocker browser for Android, video ads, pop-ups, and tracking tools are blocked immediately.
  • The benefit is that watching videos in a browser with an ad blocker saves battery and mobile data because your phone doesn’t have to load big ad files. You can also bookmark YouTube on your home screen so it works just like an app!

2. Mobile Browser Extensions

You can add adblocker extensions to Firefox or the Kiwi Browser on Android to remove video ads when watching online.

3. DNS-Level Blocking

You can block basic ads across your network by setting up a custom Private DNS on your Android device (like NextDNS or AdGuard DNS). While this helps with general web browsing, keep in mind that YouTube sends ads from the same servers as videos, so blocking ads only through DNS might miss some mid-roll ads.

What method do you usually use when watching YouTube on your phone? The native app, a special browser, or something else? Let us know!
